The Center for Chamber Music (CCM) was founded in 1975, in Greenwich, Connecticut. We are a non-profit organization that presents a series of chamber music concerts in Greenwich throughout the year. We also conduct an annual scholarship competition that gives cash awards to talented high school-age musicians who are interested in pursuing careers in music.
We offer audiences the chance to attend electrifying performances with little more effort than it takes to go to the movies; we offer students financial support for their growth as musicians and future professionals.
Our Mission
The Center for Chamber Music was founded to bring the best in classical music performance to Greenwich, fostering appreciation for the music and opportunities for artists. We believe that world-class performances should be available to everyone, not only in large metropolitan concert halls, but also in the towns and communities where people live — in their houses of worship, schools, and other intimate settings. Our goal is to make this magnificent art form more accessible to the public at large, especially in and around our own community.
What Is Chamber Music?
Chamber music is any music performed in a small, intimate setting and kept to small-scale performances. Traditionally, it was performed in homes, which gave listeners a more intimate musical experience. Regardless of where it is performed, chamber music provides a rich, intense musical experience. Performers bond with the audience on a level not possible with large symphony orchestras.
Cozy Venues
True to tradition, CCM began in the living room of one of its founders. We still present performances in homes, and have expanded to local public venues as well – churches, schools, and other buildings that offer nearly the same degree of intimacy as the original living-room performances (often, with better acoustics).
Champagne and Dessert Receptions
After each concert, audience members are invited to join the musicians for a festive reception. Our artists and audiences always enjoy this special opportunity to meet and socialize.
